Reviews

NME (Spring 1998):

Starts off acoustically and sounds a bit like The Beatles' 'Bungalow Bill'. There are also echoes of 'All Around The World' as Noel sings, "Do you ever see the light/Did you feel last night/Did you see the time of day ticking away did you say there would be a better day". Of all the tracks on the cassette this is the closest to the songs on 'Be Here Now'.

Record Collector (March 1998):

Someone once described Noel's lyrics as "familar phrases strung together until they no longer have a meaning", and that's a perfect description of this optimistic, anthemic number. Nothing else here is as openly influenced by the Smiths, but only in terms of sound: it's difficult to imagine Morrissey intoning lines like "Keep believing in yourself, only you can help yourself, you've gotta have fun" with his tongue anywhere but in his cheek.
Elsewhere in the Gallagher catalogue, a phrase like "I know what you're thinking" might be a threat (in the tradition of Sting's "Every Breath You Take") but her it's clearly compassionate, addressed to a kindred spirit of the wounded heart.
