Going Nowhere

GOING NOWHERE (N. Gallagher)
WRITTEN: About 1990 (Masterplan promo interview). It's actually a very, very old song, from when I was heavily into Burt Bacharach. I wrote that just after we got the record deal (Autumn 1993). I was going down to London to see McGee - me, Liam and Bonehead, I think actually, I'm not sure if they helped out on the lyrics of that. They might have done, I can't remember." (NME, 31st October 1998)
RECORDED: Maison Rouge Studios, London - May 1997. After they'd just finished the album (Masterplan promo)
COMMENTS: Only Noel and Whitey present. Done in in an afternoon. Mark Coyle has a master reel-to-real tape from at least -1993. Same attangement, slightly different lyrics, just on acoustic guitar. Wanted to have strings. Then werent going to have strings, then decided to. Worked out strings on the spot. (Masterplan promo interview)

But "Going Nowhere" is one of the better ones out of that period of time. If it is about anything, it's just about what we were going to do when we were all millionaires. "Gonna get me a motor car…" And cleverly rhymed with the word 'Jaguar'! I used that in "Step Out" as well. Will anyone notice? Nah, will they fk! Then we binned it for ages."
Any particular reason why Liam doesn't sing it?
"I don't think we were getting on really well. He came down to do the backing vocals, and I didn't like what he was doing and then he subsequently called me a c
t, and then I called him a c**t, and then he walked out of the studio, and that was it. So I said, 'Right, we're taking them off for a start!' I'm not sure whether he likes the song or not. He probably doesn't, that's why he doesn't sing it. (NME, 31st October 1998)

OTHERS: Keyboards by Mike Rowe. Strings and Horns arranged by Nick Ingman and Noel Gallagher. Piano by Mike Rowe (Masterplan promo)
